Maiya Jewellery

Maiya Jewellery My hobby led to the creation of my company "Maiya Jewellery". I had begun in a small way, making pieces for myself, and as presents for friends and family. This led to the creation of a small range, which I sold to clients who had heard of me by word of mouth. More recently I have begun selling through several boutiques in South Africa, the UK and in Canada. Each piece is unique, and lovingly handcrafted. I take great pleasure in producing items which hopefully are worn with great enjoyment and which are the finishing touch for any and every occasion. If you have chosen one of my pieces, I wish you well to wear it. Know that I have spent a lot of time creating it for you, by hand, and that it is not a mass manufactured piece of jewellery. I am constantly evolving and honing my skills and intend to continue creating jewellery for years to come. Lorna Bennet I have been involved in Arts and Crafts in one way or another, for most of my life. As a young girl I earned pocket money by painting seaside scenes on wallets for the tourist trade in the seaside village I grew up in. I also took photographs of tourists. These were developed and printed by my mother, who owned a photographic studio. She taught me about the importance of composition and lighting. Later I became a scriptwriter and spent more than 25 years working in the film industry, primarily as a Scrip supervisor. For years I owned an animation studio where we oversaw every aspect of the more than 52 short films I wrote, directed and produced, based on the Myths and legends of Africa. During my spare time, I created pottery and jewellery. This was a hobby which I cherished. A way of unwinding and a source of creativity, which I found most rewarding. For the past few years I have studies glassmaking and used these skills to create glass pendants which I incorporate into some of the necklaces I create. More recently I have studies working with silver and now make most of the silver clasps, jump rings, spacers and ornamentation that I use in creating my small range of jewellery.
